Media Humiliates Pakistan Just Before Tri-Series, Calls Afghanistan Second Best Asian Team
Pakistan captain Salman Agha’s viral smirk after Afghanistan was called Asia’s second-best team has sparked reactions online ahead of the T20 tri-series in Sharjah.
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha’s reaction during a press conference ahead of the T20 tri-series in Sharjah has gone viral. When Afghanistan was referred to as Asia’s “second-best team” after India, Agha couldn’t hold back a suggestive smirk, which fans online quickly noticed.
The tri-series, beginning August 29, will see Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the UAE battle it out as preparation for the Asia Cup starting September 9. At the media briefing, captains Salman Agha, Rashid Khan, and Muhammad Waseem shared their thoughts on the competition.
A reporter praised Afghanistan for their remarkable T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, where they reached the semi-finals, and described them as the continent’s second-strongest side.
While the question was posed to Rashid Khan, Agha’s subtle yet telling smirk drew attention and sparked debates on social media, with many seeing it as a dismissive gesture.
“There is no specific target. We don’t need to put extra pressure on ourselves. For us, it’s about the right brand of cricket we have played over the last few years. That’s our focus—putting in 200% whether we bat, bowl, or field. Beating teams will follow,” he said.
Afghanistan’s rise in recent years has been undeniable. They stunned England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka at the 2023 ODI World Cup before making the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 with wins over New Zealand and Australia.
The tri-series opener on Friday will see Pakistan face Afghanistan, followed by Pakistan vs UAE on Saturday.
