Nitish Rana and Digvesh Rathi were at the center of the storm after a heated face-off during West Delhi’s chase of 202. Rana, who went on to play a match-winning knock of 134* off 55 balls, exchanged words with Rathi after smashing him for a flurry of boundaries. Things escalated further when Rana mimicked the bowler’s celebration.

The situation worsened in the 11th over when Rana’s teammate Krish Yadav, after being dismissed, got into an altercation with South Delhi’s Sumit Mathur and pacer Aman Bharti. Multiple videos of the clashes have gone viral, showing players from both teams charging at each other aggressively before officials intervened.

In its official release after the match, DPL T20 confirmed the following penalties:

  • Digvesh Rathi: fined 80% of match fees under Article 2.2 (Level 2) – conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.
  • Nitish Rana: fined 50% under Article 2.6 (Level 1) – using an obscene or insulting gesture during play.
  • Sumit Mathur: fined 50% under Article 2.5 (Level 1) – provocative language and gestures.
  • Aman Bharti: fined 20% under Article 2.3 (Level 1) – use of audible obscenity.
  • Krish Yadav: fined 100% under Article 2.3 (Level 2) – audible obscenity and pointing his bat at an opponent after being dismissed.

Despite the on-field drama, West Delhi Lions cruised to a seven-wicket win in just 17.1 overs, with Rana’s explosive batting leading the way.

The Lions will now face East Delhi Riders in Qualifier 2 on Saturday (August 30), where both Rana and Krish are expected to feature again despite the penalties.
