“Makes No Sense” – Sanjay Manjrekar Slams India’s Batting Order Against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2025
India managed to put 168 runs against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2025 match.
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has questioned the team management’s decision to promote Shivam Dube to No. 3 in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash against Bangladesh in Dubai on Wednesday.
Dube, who has struggled with the bat in the tournament, managed only two runs from three balls before being dismissed by Rishad Hossain, leaving India in trouble after two quick wickets. Manjrekar took to X to express his frustration, writing:
“With every batter in this Indian team a phenomenal hitter against both pace & spin makes no sense to send Shivam Dube up the order.”
Notably, captain Suryakumar Yadav was expected to walk in at No. 3 but was pushed down the order in a surprise move. Dube’s promotion raised eyebrows as the 32-year-old has yet to make an impact with the bat, scoring 10* against Pakistan and 5 against Oman earlier in the competition.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma once again provided India with a fiery start. The left-hander smashed 75 off 37 deliveries at a strike rate of 202.70, hitting five sixes and six fours before being run out.
His partnership with Shubman Gill (29 off 19) added 77 runs for the opening wicket and gave India early momentum. Eventually, India managed to put just 168 runs for the loss of six wickets at the end of 20 overs.
