Kyle Mayers Added to West Indies Squad as Brandon King Ruled Out of Remainder of T20 World Cup 2024

Kyle Mayers will step in Brandon King’s position in the West Indies squad.

Brandon King, the West Indies opener, will miss the rest of the T20 World Cup 2024 due to a side strain. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Event Technical Committee has approved left-handed batter Kyle Mayers as his replacement.

Brandon King, who had shown promising form with 86 runs in the tournament, sustained a side strain during the Super 8 opener against England on June 19. King had to retire hurt after scoring 23 off 13 balls. Later West Indies went on to lose that game.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) quickly took to social media to update on King’s injury, confirming its seriousness and the requirement for more scans. Even though King travelled with the team to Barbados, the scans indicated he would not be able to play for the remainder of the tournament.

West Indies will face the USA in their next match, a crucial contest for both teams as they each lost their opening Super 8 match. A defeat in this game will severely diminish their chances of qualifying for the semifinals. It will be interesting to see if Kyle Mayers will get a chance in the playing lineup.
