KL Rahul Becomes First Indian Opener with Three Test Hundreds in England

KL Rahul scores third Test ton in England, becomes first Indian opener to reach the milestone in away conditions

KL Rahul added another feather to his cap by becoming the first Indian opener to score three Test centuries in England. The milestone came during the first Test at Headingley, where he played a classy knock and reached his ninth overall Test hundred.

Rahul brought up his century with a boundary off Shoaib Bashir, continuing his fine run in overseas conditions. This latest ton also meant he went past some of India’s biggest batting names, Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Merchant, Rahul Dravid, and Ravi Shastri who each had two centuries as openers in England.

What stands out even more is that eight of Rahul’s nine Test centuries have come outside India. He now has five hundreds as an opener in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia), a group of nations known for their testing conditions.

Among Indian openers, only Sunil Gavaskar has scored more hundreds in SENA, he has eight. Rahul is now second on that list, showing how consistent and dependable he has become while opening outside Asia.
