Jofra Archer Returns! England Star Registers for Full BBL Season After 6-Year Break

Jofra Archer is all set to return to the Big Bash League after six years, having registered for the 2025 BBL draft with full-season availability.

Jofra Archer is all set to make his Big Bash League (BBL) comeback. According to BBC reports, the England pacer has registered for the upcoming BBL Draft ahead of the tournament’s 15th edition, scheduled for later this year.

The BBL draft will be held on June 19, and Archer has confirmed his full availability for the entire season.

Archer Eyes BBL Return After Seven Years

Jofra Archer last played in the BBL in the 2018 edition. He was then a rising name in world cricket and represented the Hobart Hurricanes. His performance in the 2017–18 and 2018–19 seasons was a key reason behind his breakthrough in international cricket.

Archer picked up 34 wickets in two seasons, averaging just over 23 with the ball. This will be Archer’s third BBL stint if picked, and it will mark his return to the league after a long six-year gap.

Fully Available – But For How Long?

While many English players like Ollie Pope and Jacob Bethell have opted to play only a few games, Archer has declared himself available for the full season. However, his actual participation might depend on England’s Test commitments, especially the Ashes series.

The 2025 Ashes will be held in Australia from November 21 to January 8 – which directly clashes with the BBL window. So, even if Archer is picked in the BBL Draft, England duties may restrict his availability.

Injury Update

Jofra Archer is currently nursing a thumb injury and has been ruled out of England’s first Test match starting June 20. But England’s selectors remain optimistic and expect him to return for the second Test of the summer.

If he regains fitness and bowls well in the red-ball format, England are likely to include him in the Ashes squad. That may, once again, delay his BBL return despite his full-season registration.
