Jofra Archer OUT of IPL 2025! RCB, MI Stars Also Ruled Out Ahead of Playoffs
CSK and RR lose key England players as Curran, Overton, and Archer pull out of IPL 2025, while Buttler and Jacks are set to return
Chennai Super Kings have suffered another blow as both Sam Curran and Jamie Overton will not return for the remainder of IPL 2025. In a similar update, Jofra Archer has also been ruled out of the season for Rajasthan Royals.
With CSK and RR already knocked out of the playoff race, these withdrawals were expected. The players are now expected to join the England squad for the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies.
Buttler, Jacks, and Livingstone Set for India Return
While some English players are heading home, others are preparing to return to India. Jos Buttler (Gujarat Titans), Jacob Bethell and Liam Livingstone (RCB), and Will Jacks (Mumbai Indians) will land in India on Wednesday, May 14.
However, Phil Salt’s status remains uncertain. He missed RCB’s home game against CSK due to illness, and no official update has been shared yet regarding his return or availability.
With Curran and Overton out, CSK are now searching for replacement players. The franchise has already made several changes to its squad this season. But under the updated IPL rules, new replacement signings cannot be retained ahead of the next season.
Rajasthan Royals confirmed that Jofra Archer’s absence is due to injury and not because the team is out of playoff contention. “It is not a case of not being willing because we are out of reckoning for playoffs. He is nursing an injury and we are prioritising his fitness,” a franchise official told Cricbuzz.
There’s also uncertainty over Moeen Ali’s availability. The KKR all-rounder has played only six matches this season, all at Eden Gardens. With KKR set to play their remaining games outside Kolkata, Moeen is considering his next step and is expected to make a decision in the next 24 hours.
