England’s star batter Joe Root has matched Alastair Cook’s record for the most Test centuries by an English player, hitting his 33rd century on August 29.
Root reached this milestone during the third session of the first day of the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. Cook, England’s all-time leading run scorer in Test cricket, retired with 33 centuries from 161 matches.
Root has matched this record in just his 145th Test. He reached his century with a boundary off the third ball of the 63rd over of England’s innings, delivered by Lahiru Kumara.
