Jasprit Bumrah To Miss a Few Games in Asia Cup 2025 Due to Workload Management
AB de Villiers claims Jasprit Bumrah will skip a few Asia Cup 2025 games as India manages his workload carefully.
Jasprit Bumrah may not feature in all of India’s matches at the Asia Cup 2025, according to former RCB star AB de Villiers.
The 31-year-old fast bowler, who has been struggling with injuries in recent years, is part of the 15-member squad announced for the tournament starting on September 9.
Bumrah played three of the five Tests against England earlier this year but was sidelined during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after picking up another injury.
He spent several months out of action before making his return, and the BCCI has been extra cautious with his workload ever since.
De Villiers Backs Workload Management
Speaking about Bumrah’s return, De Villiers said the team management is handling him the right way.
“It is good to see him in the team as he is fit and ready to go. He will not play all the games, and I read somewhere that he will compete in the important games. I love the fact that selectors are proactive. This is how you manage senior players,” he said.
He added, “A lot of cricket is being played these days, and it takes a toll on the bodies of the players. You will get the best out of older guys once you start managing them. It is good that they have started doing it with Jasprit Bumrah.”
Controversy Over Bumrah’s Absence
Bumrah’s injuries have often been a talking point in Indian cricket. During the England series earlier this year, India managed to win both games in which he did not feature, but the series eventually ended in a draw.
His absence from crucial matches has raised concerns, and he is also expected to miss the upcoming two-Test series against West Indies at home.
For now, the pace spearhead is likely to be used only in key Asia Cup fixtures, with the management determined to keep him fresh for the bigger challenges ahead.
