‘IPL is Absolutely Irrelevant’ – Usman Khawaja Defends Maxwell Ahead of T20 World Cup

Usman Khawaja backs Glenn Maxwell to come out stronger in T20 World Cup 2024.

Australian opener Usman Khawaja has thrown his full support behind teammate Glenn Maxwell, brushing aside concerns about Maxwell’s recent struggles in the IPL 2024 ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Glenn Maxwell, renowned for his big-hitting batting and handy off-spin, had a difficult IPL season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, managing only 52 runs in nine outings. However, Khawaja believes Maxwell’s experience and past achievements speak for themselves.

“The IPL form is absolutely irrelevant,” Khawaja declared, emphasizing Maxwell’s established record in international cricket. “Any player who’s been around for a long time understands that you can’t be at your best all the time.”

Usman Khawaja acknowledged the inherent volatility of T20 cricket, particularly for middle-order batters like Glenn Maxwell.

“But in this tournament,” Khawaja insisted, “if he gets a good knock early on, he can take the game away. What happened in the past doesn’t matter.”

With the Caribbean hosting the T20 World Cup 2024, spin is expected to be a key factor. Maxwell’s threat as a batter and bowler could prove invaluable for Australia, complementing established spinners like Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar.
