IPL 2026: MS Dhoni Behind Ravindra Jadeja’s Exit From Chennai Super Kings
Reports suggest CSK didn’t plan Ravindra Jadeja’s exit, but MS Dhoni’s desperation to bring Sanju Samson in as his successor made the trade with Rajasthan Royals inevitable.
In what could mark the end of an era, Ravindra Jadeja’s long-standing association with Chennai Super Kings appears to be over.
According to reports, the all-rounder has already signed his consent to join Rajasthan Royals, completing one of the most dramatic trades in IPL history.
However, the surprising part is that Chennai reportedly had no plans to part ways with Jadeja. A recent media report claims that the trade with Rajasthan Royals, involving Sanju Samson and the possible inclusion of another CSK player, was a move born out of “desperation,” rather than strategy.
Jadeja has been one of the cornerstones of CSK’s success over the years, winning three IPL titles with the franchise.
Chennai had retained him twice in mega auctions, in 2018 and 2025, underlining his importance to the team’s core.
Yet, the franchise’s management was forced into rethinking their stance when discussions with Rajasthan intensified over Sanju Samson’s availability.
Earlier this year, during the Major League Cricket season in the US, CSK management reportedly met Samson to discuss a potential move to Chennai.
Rajasthan immediately demanded a player in return, and their eyes were firmly set on Jadeja. Initially, CSK wanted a cash-only trade, but as negotiations stalled, the franchise gave in, realising that Samson could solve their biggest puzzle.
Dhoni, now 44 and managing persistent knee issues, is unlikely to play beyond IPL 2026. With Samson’s inclusion, Chennai expect to build stability at the top and a natural leadership transition once the Dhoni era concludes.
