IPL 2026: Mohammed Shami Set for LSG Move as SRH Agree to All-Cash Trade
SRH agree to trade Mohammed Shami to LSG in a INR 10 crore deal as both teams reshape squads before the IPL deadline.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has agreed to trade Mohammed Shami to Lucknow Super Giants in a deal worth INR 10 crore. This is the same amount SRH paid for him at the 2025 auction. The trade now waits for Shami’s approval and final paperwork before the November 15 deadline.
Shami is going through a tough period in his career. He has been out of the India setup for some time and recently turned out for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy. He called this a difficult phase and was not picked for the latest Test series. His IPL 2025 season did not help either. He managed only 6 wickets in 9 matches with a high average and economy rate.
SRH had brought Shami in for his strong powerplay record with Gujarat Titans from 2022 to 2024. But he struggled last season, especially at home, and the coaching group debated his retention before accepting LSG’s offer.
Why LSG Want Shami
Lucknow’s Indian pace group has been hit hard by injuries. Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, and Mohsin Khan are all recovering. The team needed an experienced fast bowler who can start games and guide the younger players. Shami will also reunite with Bharat Arun, who is now LSG’s head of talent development. Arun worked closely with him during his time as India’s bowling coach.
The move also shows LSG’s intent ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction. They have chosen reliability over risk and are betting on Shami returning to form under familiar guidance. The franchise believes he can still deliver with the new ball if he gets a clear role and proper support.
For SRH, this trade is part of a reset. They needed to free up purse value and make space for younger bowlers after Shami’s dip last season. With the deadline approaching, the team management decided to move ahead with the offer instead of waiting for the auction.
The trade will be one of the last major moves before franchises submit their final squads by 3pm on November 15. It also follows another big exchange, where Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals swapped Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, and Sanju Samson earlier this week. Once paperwork is cleared and the IPL office ratifies the deal, Shami will officially join Lucknow.
