IPL 2025: Faf du Plessis, Tristan Stubbs Rejoin Delhi Capitals Squad on ‘This’ Condition
Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs have rejoined Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025, but Stubbs will leave before the playoffs due to WTC commitments.
Delhi Capitals (DC) have received a much-needed boost ahead of the IPL 2025 resumption as two important players, Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs, are set to rejoin the squad. The franchise confirmed their return through an official release.
However, Stubbs will be available only for the league stage. He will fly back to South Africa before the playoffs to join the national team for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia on June 11 at Lord’s.
Stubbs to Leave Before Playoffs
Tristan Stubbs is part of South Africa’s Test squad for the WTC Final. If Delhi Capitals qualify for the knockouts, they will have to find a replacement for the in-form middle-order batter.
Stubbs has been in great touch, scoring 259 runs in 11 matches at an average of 51. His contribution has been important in helping DC stay in playoff contention.
DC’s Playoff Scenario
Delhi Capitals are currently in a tricky position on the points table. They have six wins in 11 matches and are still not guaranteed a place in the playoffs. After a strong start to their campaign, winning four back-to-back matches, the team has struggled to keep the momentum going.
With three matches left in the league stage, the Axar Patel-led side must win all remaining games to stay alive in the playoff race. The upcoming matches will be crucial for DC and other mid-table teams fighting for the last few spots.
Faf and Stubbs Return Confirmed
“JSW and GMR co-owned franchise Delhi Capitals on Saturday confirmed that Vice-captain Faf du Plessis and teammate Tristan Stubbs have rejoined the team ahead of the resumption of IPL 2025,” the franchise said in a press release.
Faf du Plessis has played six matches this season and scored 128 runs, including two fifties. He adds valuable experience at the top, which will be important in the final leg of the league stage.
If DC do make it to the playoffs, they will need to find a dependable replacement for Stubbs, who has been one of their most consistent performers with the bat.
