IPL 2024: Will Rohit Sharma Replace Ruturaj Gaikwad as CSK Captain? Former England Captain Makes Bold Remarks

Rohit Sharma is expected to leave Mumbai Indians next years.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that Rohit Sharma will join the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) next year and replace Ruturaj Gaikwad as the team’s captain.

Vaughan further stated that Gaikwad has been holding the captaincy position of the Chennai Super Kings this year until Rohit Sharma joins CSK next year and takes over the captaincy.

Here’s what Michael Vaughan said in a recent BeerBiceps podcast:

“Will he (Rohit Sharma) go to Chennai? Replace Dhoni? Gaikwad is doing it (the captaincy) this year, and it might be just (an act of) holding position for Rohit next year. I see him in Chennai.”

“I personally would’ve captained Rohit. Hardik coming back to MI is big enough pressure in itself, and Rohit is obviously going to be the Indian T20 captain,” Vaughan added.

Notably, ever since Rohit Sharma was removed from the captaincy of the Mumbai Indians and replaced by Hardik Pandya, the debate has centered around Rohit likely leaving the franchise next year.

Earlier reports suggested that Rohit Sharma is likely to go under the hammer in the IPL 2025 auction, which is scheduled to be a mega auction. If Rohit Sharma enters the auction, it will be significant, as many franchises are expected to go behind him.
