IPL 2024: ‘Players Now Get Selected For The Indian Team Because of Their Fan Clubs’ – Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli also opened up about how tough it used to be to get selected for the Indian team in the past.

Virat Kohli, the batting virtuoso, opened up about the challenges players faced in the past when they only had two to three chances to prove themselves for team selection, unlike the present times.

The former India skipper stated that current players have it easier due to the support of fan clubs, which creates a more favourable atmosphere for selection. Additionally, they receive more opportunities compared to the past.

Here’s what Virat Kohli said at a PUMA event:

“In our time, when I debuted, we only had 4-5 games to prove ourselves. If you proved yourself, you stayed; otherwise, you were out of the team. It’s not like today, where everyone has fan clubs that create an atmosphere where they say bad things about our players.”

However, Kohli’s statement sparked debate on social media, with fans contradicting him by citing the example of Rohit Sharma.

According to them, the current Indian captain, who debuted in 2007, had 86 matches to prove himself before MS Dhoni designated him as an opener, eventually leading to his success.
