IPL 2021, Match 1 - MI vs RCB: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Mumbai Indians by 2 Wickets in a nail-biting thriller.
IPL 2021, Match 1 – MI vs RCB: The Royal Challengers Bangalore beat defending champions Mumbai Indians in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season on Friday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Quick Highlight of Match 1, MI vs RCB
Earlier in the match, Kohli won the toss and offered Rohit Sharma and the boys to bat first. After being put in to bat first, Mumbai Indians got off to a decent start with Rohit Sharma and Chris Lynn opening the innings. The MI skipper looked in amazing touch hitting a six and a four before a mix-up with his partner cut-short his promising 19-run knock. However, Lynn didn’t let things slip from their hands and smashed a brilliant 49 off just 35 balls with four fours and three sixes.
Also, Lynn was the highest scorer for Mumbai Indians. Later on, Lynn and Suryakumar Yadav added a crucial 70 run-stand to get MI back on track. However, the latter’s wicket brought MI’s run-rate to a screeching halt. Finally, RCB hit back with key wickets as Harshal Patel claimed a maiden fifer.
Patel dismissed Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan in his 2nd and 3rd over and then backed it up with the wickets of Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Marco Jansen to become the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul. Eventually, Mumbai Indians posted 159/9 on board.
Mumbai Indians, however, came back brilliantly thanks to Jasprit Bumrah and Marco Jansen’s middle-overs as the duo claimed four wickets between them to bring the match right in the balance before AB de Villiers masterclass clinched it for RCB.
Before heading into the next thriller of the cash-rich league, let’s have a look at the records broken in the opening match of the IPL 2021.
