IPL 2021: Ben Dwarshuis Replaces Chris Woakes In Delhi Capitals For UAE Leg
Chris Woakes withdrawn from the remainder of IPL 2021 due to personal reasons and Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis will be his replacement.
Australia’s Ben Dwarshuis, the second highest wicket taker in the last edition of BBL joins Delhi Capitals as Chris Woakes’ replacement.
Franchise took to social media to announce the development.
“Delhi Capitals today announced that English all-rounder Chris Woakes, who picked up 5 wickets in 3 matches in the first half of the VIVO IPL 2021, has pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons,” DC said in a statement on Monday.
“The Delhi Capitals have announced Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis as Woakes’ replacement for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season,” it added.
Chris Woakes, Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan were the three English players, having pulled out of the remaining phase of the IPL 2021. The reason behind their decision to opt out, as cited by media reports, is bubble fatigue.
The 27-year old has 100 wickets under his belt in 82 T20 matches at an average of 23.73. The Australian, who plays for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League is the sixth-highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament with 85 wickets in 69 matches.
Delhi Capitals will resume their IPL 2021 campaign for a maiden IPL title against Sunrisers Hyderabad from September 22 in Dubai.
