IPL 2020: We Lost Too Many Wickets- Steve Smith After Suffering Their Fifth Defeat
Steve Smith believes that the wicket was slow and thus it became tough for them to chase the target. He also hailed Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes for their contribution in the team.
Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Steve Smith has failed to impress RR fans with his bat after performing brilliantly in the first two matches, where he smashed two fifties. Rajasthan Royals suffered their fifth defeat in eight matches. Following the loss to Delhi Capitals by 13 runs, Rajasthan Royals made their chances of qualifying the play offs more difficult.
Steve Smith is undoubtedly a great captain but his batting skills hasn’t improved after the first two matches. In the last few matches, he had scored single-figures. In the match played on Wednesday againt Delhi Capitals, he could manage only a single run, which undoubtedly is another failure as a batsman.
Chasing 162, Rajasthan Royals’ batsman Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes gave a stunning start to the team. Sanju samson and Robin Uthappa all received starts but no one could stay for long and eventually Rajasthan Royals’ lost match by 13 runs.
“Guys kept getting in and kept getting out, and not making 60-odd to see us through” : Steve Smith
Smith believes that the wicket was slow and thus it became tough for them to chase the target. He also hailed Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes for their contribution in the team.
“Disappointing one. Obviously the wicket slowed up a fair but, but we got off to a good start with Jos and Stokesy. Then Sanju and Stokesy got partnership going but we lost too many wickets. On a slow wicket it is difficult to make up runs in the end. We needed to take it deep with set batsmen.”
“Guys kept getting in and kept getting out, and not making 60-odd to see us through. The guys that have the air speed have had the most success. Jofra has been brilliant for us so have Nortje and Rabada for Delhi. We are not in a great position, are we? We have got to quickly move on and come back with a big game in three days time,” Smith said in the post-match conference.
