In the 32nd match of the 13th season of IPL, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 8 wickets. KKR did not perform well even after changing the captaincy. KKR was beaten by Mumbai for the second time in the season. In the match played in Abu Dhabi, Kolkata won the toss and gave a target of 149 runs while batting first. In response, Mumbai won the match by scoring 149 runs for 2 wickets in 16.5 overs.

Mumbai opener Quinton de Kock made his 13th fifty in the IPL. He scored the most for MI an unbeaten 78 runs for the team. Hardik Pandya not out after scoring 21 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma scored 35 runs. Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for 10 runs. KKR’s Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakraborty got one wicket each.

50+ Run Opening Partnership For Mumbai – First Time in The Season

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma (35 Runs) and Quinton de Kock gave their team a great start. There was a 94-run opening partnership between the two. KKR’s Shivam Mavi broke the partnership by dismissing Rohit. For the first time in the season, there was a 50+ run partnership between the Mumbai openers. At the same time, this is the first time in the season, when no wicket fell for Mumbai in the power-play.

KKR Lost 2 Wickets in Power-Play

Kolkata did not have a good start. Opener Rahul Tripathi could not do anything special. Rahul (7 runs) was dismissed by Trent Boult. His superb catch was caught by Suryakumar Yadav. Dinesh Karthik – Shubman Gill Failed Again

Dinesh Karthik, who left the captaincy of KKR, did not impress with his bat in this match. Karthik scored 4 runs off 8 balls. He was dismissed by Rahul Chahar. Chahar had also sent Shubman Gill (21 runs) back to the pavilion on the next ball and create hat-trick opportunity for himself however he was not successful in it and Andre Russell played for 1 run.

Cummins-Morgan Handeled KKR Innings

Earlier, after losing 5 wickets for 61 runs, KKR was in trouble and was handled by captain Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins. Both brought the team’s score to 148 for 5 wickets. Both shared an unbeaten 87-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Cummins made his first fifty in the IPL, scoring an unbeaten 53 off 36 balls and Morgan scored 39 off 29 balls.

Rahul Chahar of Mumbai took the maximum 2 wickets. Apart from this, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Nathan Coulter-Nile took 1–1 wicket.

Mumbai’s Bowlers Most Effective in Power-Play

Mumbai Indians bowlers performed well in the season. The bowlers of the team have taken 12 wickets in the power-play at an average of 23.33. At the same time, Sunrisers Hyderabad is second with 12 wickets at an average of 28.08. Kings XI Punjab has taken 9 wickets at an average of 32.11 and is third in this list.

Karthik Left The Captaincy in The Middle of The Season

Dinesh Karthik handed over the captaincy of Kolkata Knight Riders to Eoin Morgan in the afternoon before the match. Karthik had said that he has taken this decision to focus on his batting. Eoin Morgan is the second English player to captain for a team in the IPL. Earlier, Kevin Pietersen captained 17 matches of the league. In which he won only 3 matches and lost 14 matches. Pietersen captained 6 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2009 and 11 matches for Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals) in 2014.
