“Indian Shahid Afridi”: Pakistan Great Compares Rishabh Pant, Fans Disagree

Mushtaq Mohammad calls Rishabh Pant the 'Indian Shahid Afridi' but stats tell a different story.

Former Pakistan captain Mushtaq Mohammad made a surprising comparison during Day 4 of the Edgbaston Test between India and England, calling India’s Rishabh Pant “the Indian Shahid Afridi.”

“Rishabh Pant is the Indian Shahid Afridi, in fact he is even better than Afridi when he has a bat in his hand,” Mushtaq told PTI.

Pant, 27, is already considered one of India’s most impactful Test players. With a batting average of 44.45, five centuries, and more than ten fifties, Pant’s red-ball record stands well above Afridi’s.

The former Pakistan all-rounder, known more for his white-ball fireworks, played only 27 Tests in a career that spanned ten years and averaged 36.51.

Even with the odd comparison, Mushtaq made it clear the praise was for Pant’s fearless approach. Like Afridi, Pant plays with freedom and aggression.

But unlike Afridi, Pant’s consistency in red-ball cricket, especially overseas, has made him one of India’s most valuable players.
