Indian Government Yet to Approve India’s Tour of Bangladesh

India's 2025 tour of Bangladesh uncertain as political unrest delays BCCI's final decision on team travel.

India’s scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh, set to begin in August 2025, is still awaiting confirmation as political unrest continues to grip the neighbouring country.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam has revealed that the tour hangs in the balance, with the BCCI waiting for a green signal from the Indian government.

Discussions Ongoing Between BCCI and BCB

India were originally expected to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh, starting August 17, but the situation remains unclear. According to Aminul Islam, both cricket boards are in touch and working through possible alternatives.

“We’re having positive discussions with the BCCI. It’s not like (hosting India) in August or September only — we are exploring how to do the series. If we cannot host it now, we will do it at another possible time,” Aminul told the media on Monday.

Political Unrest May Delay Series

The main concern is the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh, triggered by the death of student activist Abu Sayeed during an anti-government protest in 2024.

His killing sparked a massive nationwide movement that eventually led to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government.

Indian Government Yet to Decide

Given the tense situation, the Indian government has not yet cleared the team’s travel. Although the BCB is hopeful that the series will take place, security concerns are expected to play a big role in the final decision.

The BCCI has made no official announcement regarding the tour, but sources suggest that India will only proceed if there is complete assurance of safety for the players and staff.
