IND vs WI: Suryakumar Yadav Set to Bat at No. 6 in ODIs to Maximize His T20 Batting Style – Report
Indian management pushing Suryakumar Yadav to the number six batting position in ODIs
With the World Cup 2023 approaching, team India is yet to finalize their best 11 combinations. Among the concerns is the form of Suryakumar Yadav, who has excelled in T20 cricket but is yet to establish himself in the ODI lineup.
Earlier this year, Suryakumar Yadav registered three consecutive golden ducks in the ODI series against Australia. Despite this, the Indian management decided to back him and included him in the ongoing West Indies series.
However, his performance against the Men in Maroon has been modest, with scores of 19 and 24 runs in the first two ODI matches. Amidst his struggles in ODIs, team India still seems determined not to consider dropping him from the third ODI.
Amidst all these developments, a report from The Indian Express suggests that the Indian management is considering pushing Suryakumar Yadav to the number six batting position in India’s ODI playing XI, to maximise his T20 batting style.
Since making his T20 debut for India back in March 2021, Suryakumar Yadav has emerged as one of the premier T20 batters in world cricket today. In the 48 matches he has played for India in this format, Yadav has amassed 1675 runs at an average of 46.53 and a strike rate of 175.76.
The ongoing three-match ODI series between India and West Indies stands at 1-1, and the decisive third and final match is scheduled to take place at Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad on Tuesday, August 1.
