IND vs WI: Karun Nair to be Dropped From West Indies Test Series

Karun Nair set to be dropped for India’s Test squad vs West Indies, with Devdutt Padikkal likely to take his place.

Karun Nair’s return to international cricket may have ended sooner than expected. The 33-year-old is set to be left out of India’s Test squad for the upcoming two-match home series against West Indies, with selectors preparing to meet online on September 24.

Nair had pleaded for a second chance and got it during the recent Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England.

However, he could not make it count. Across four Tests, he scored just 205 runs at an average of 25, managing only one fifty in a series where runs flowed freely.

His highest score was 57 in the Oval Test, and the manner of his dismissals raised further doubts.

Apart from Nair’s likely exit, the rest of the squad is expected to remain largely the same. Rishabh Pant is still out with a toe injury and is undergoing rehab at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Dhruv Jurel, who scored a century against Australia A, will continue as the main wicketkeeper, with N Jagadeesan as backup.

The two-Test series begins in Ahmedabad from October 2 to 6, followed by the second Test in New Delhi from October 10 to 14.
