With this, he became only the second Indian to achieve this feat, joining the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who had scored 205 in his first innings as home captain against West Indies in 1978.

India resumed at 121 for 2, and Gill made a steady 50 off 100 balls before being dismissed by Roston Chase. His innings under pressure showed his calm temperament and leadership potential right from the start.

KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel then put together a strong partnership, with Rahul reaching a century that included 12 boundaries. Jurel contributed a brilliant 125 off 210 balls, striking 15 fours and three sixes, before being caught behind off Jomel Warrican.

Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 104 from 176 balls, hitting six fours and five sixes, while Washington Sundar was on nine at stumps.

At the end of Day 2, India were 448 for 5, leading the West Indies by 286 runs after bowling them out for just 162.
