IND vs SA 025: Shubman Gill Reaches Guwahati, But Doubts Remain Over His Fitness for 2nd Test
Gill reaches Guwahati for 2nd Test, but India captain is likely to miss out as he recovers from a neck injury.
Shubman Gill arrived in Guwahati for the second Test against South Africa, but his chances of playing still look slim. The India captain is recovering from a neck injury that forced him out of the first Test.
Gill walked off after just three balls on Day 2 in Kolkata. He later needed hospital care and was seen wearing a neck brace at the airport. He was not wearing it when he landed in Guwahati, which is a small positive sign, but the medical team is still monitoring him closely.
India is trailing 0-1 in the series after losing the first Test by 30 runs. The team is hoping for a quick turnaround, but the management is clear that they will not risk Gill. With a long season ahead, they want him to return only when fully fit.
Reports suggest Gill will most likely miss the second Test, and he could even be ruled out of the ODI series that follows. If he is unavailable, the team may turn to Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal to fill the top-order slot.
Rishabh Pant, who led the side after Gill’s exit in the first Test, is expected to captain again. Pant handled the job well under pressure, and players believe his energy helps the group stay positive.
Even though Gill has been discharged from the hospital, the BCCI medical team is taking things slowly. The injury came at an unlucky moment for him as he had looked in good touch earlier in the match.
