IND vs ENG: U-TURN! Jasprit Bumrah to Play Fifth Test vs England? Shubman Gill Gives Key Update

India are trailing 2-1 in the five-match Test series against England, and all eyes are now on star pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the final Test at The Oval starting July 31.

Bumrah, who has played three matches so far, looked off-colour in the drawn fourth Test at Old Trafford and his place in the playing XI is now under question.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Shubman Gill was asked about Bumrah’s fitness and availability. “We will take a decision tomorrow. Wicket looks green. So let’s see,” Gill said, keeping the suspense alive.

Bumrah’s Form and Concerns

Jasprit Bumrah has taken 14 wickets in three matches this series, including a five-wicket haul in the opening Test at Leeds.

However, he was rested for the second Test in Edgbaston, which India went on to win. He returned for the third and fourth Tests, but struggled in Manchester.

In the fourth Test, Bumrah bowled 33 overs, took just two wickets, and gave away 103 runs, the most he has ever conceded in a single Test innings. More worryingly, his pace was down, with most of his deliveries clocking below 140 kmph.

This has raised concerns over his fitness, especially with the bowler appearing uncomfortable during spells.

Alongside Mohammad Siraj, Bumrah has taken 14 wickets for India this series, but the team management might consider resting him again if conditions or his physical state demand it.

Gambhir’s Take on Team Selection

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir also addressed the selection topic after the fourth Test.

“We didn’t discuss about the team combination. No decision has been made on Jasprit Bumrah. Whoever plays will try to do the job for the country,” Gambhir said.

The final decision is expected just before the match. If the pitch stays green and Bumrah is deemed fit, the team might go with him for the final push. Otherwise, the management could bring in a fresh option as India look to level the series.
