IND vs ENG: Ex-Indian Great Alleges Stokes, Archer Tried to Injure Bumrah During Lord’s Test
India lose third Test at Lord’s by 22 runs; Kaif blames Gill, Siraj, and ball change for turning point in match.
India fell short while chasing 193 in the third Test at Lord’s, getting bowled out for just 170. Despite a late fight from Ravindra Jadeja, the visitors couldn’t cross the finish line as England took the win.
Jadeja tried to keep India alive with gritty partnerships alongside tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. But the target proved just out of reach.
Kaif Slams Siraj, Gill After Loss
Former India batter Mohammad Kaif didn’t hold back after the defeat. He blamed Mohammed Siraj and captain Shubman Gill for key decisions that, in his view, turned the match in England’s favour.
Kaif criticised the choice to change the ball during England’s first innings. At the time, Bumrah had taken three wickets and was bowling well. Kaif said the new ball helped English batters Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse settle in.
“Siraj is an emotional person and agreeing to his call of changing the ball was a mistake. When the ball was replaced, it stopped helping the bowlers,” Kaif said.
He also took a dig at Gill’s celebration after dismissing Zak Crawley, saying it wasn’t needed.
“He is no Joe Root. Gill lost his cool and was joined by Siraj and Nitish Kumar Reddy. You can be aggressive, but you need to choose the right time,” he added.
“Stokes and Archer Targeted Bumrah”
Kaif further made serious allegations against England players Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer. He claimed the duo deliberately tried to injure Jasprit Bumrah with bouncers late on Day 5.
“Stokes and Archer wanted to injure Bumrah. They were aiming at his finger and shoulder. The rivals like to injure the main bowler of the other team,” Kaif said.
India will now look to regroup ahead of the next Test, needing better decision-making and composure under pressure.
