IND vs ENG: “Don’t Want to Create a Scene” – Jasprit Bumrah Reacts to Jaiswal’s Dropped Catches

India drop 6 catches at Headingley; Jaiswal spills 3 off Bumrah, who reacts with calm despite visible frustration

The first Test match between India and England at Headingley turned frustrating for India not because of poor bowling, but due to multiple missed chances in the field.

The biggest talking point was Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fielding errors, as the young batter dropped three catches, all off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling.

Jaiswal’s Nightmarish Outing in the Slips

Jaiswal’s nightmare began late on Day 2 when he dropped Ben Duckett on 15. Duckett went on to score 62 runs. On Day 3, he dropped Ollie Pope on 106 and then let go of Harry

Brook when the batter was on 83. Brook missed his century by just one run, getting out on 99, but the damage had already been done.

This was the first time since 2019 that India dropped five or more catches in the first innings of a Test match, as per CricViz. In total, India dropped six catches before Tea on Day 3. Four of those came off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling.

Bumrah’s Calm But Honest Reaction

After stumps on Day 3, Bumrah was asked about the dropped chances, especially from Jaiswal. The pacer, who still managed to complete his fifer, said:

“I am disappointed for a second when catches are dropped. It’s part and parcel of the game, and the guys are new and working so hard. I don’t want to create a scene and put more pressure on them. Nobody is doing it intentionally, so they will learn from this experience.”

His words reflected maturity, even though cameras caught his frustration after the final drop.
