In a major blow to Team India, KL Rahul has been ruled out of the third test against England as he failed to recover from the quadriceps injury he sustained in the opening test.
Devdutt Padikkal, the prolific Karnataka batsman known for his consistent run-scoring in first-class cricket, has been drafted into the Indian squad for the third test as a replacement for KL Rahul.
Having featured in 31 first-class games for Karnataka, the left-handed batter has amassed 2227 runs, including a top score of 193, at an average of 44.54.
The southpaw has scored six centuries and a total of 12 half-centuries in the longest format while representing Karnataka. He recently smashed 151 and 36 runs against Chennai during Ranji Trophy game.
The five-match series is currently tied at 1-1. The third Test between the two sides will be played at Saurashtra Cricket Stadium, Rajkot from February 15.
