On Tuesday in India, he responded in style. Playing for Australia A in the first unofficial Test against India A, Konstas struck a brilliant 109 off 144 balls. Alongside fellow opener Campbell Kellaway, he gave his side a strong start on challenging Indian pitches.

The innings will be a huge confidence boost for Konstas, as Indian conditions have historically tested many Australian batters. Facing the pace of Prasidh Krishna and Khaleel Ahmed, as well as India’s spinners, he looked composed and confident.

Dominant Against Spin

Konstas’s knock included 10 fours and three sixes. Importantly, he showed no fear against spin, scoring 57 runs off 62 balls against Tanush Kotian and Harsh Dubey.

His footwork and positive intent stood out, a trait often missing in Australian batters touring the subcontinent.

He was eventually bowled by Dubey in the 45th over, but by then, he had already made his mark. For Australia’s selectors, this innings was a reminder of his potential to succeed in tough conditions.

Konstas now needs to back up this performance with consistency if he wants to push for a Test spot. But in India, where reputations are tested, the teenager has delivered a statement knock.
