Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2025 after a superb all-round display in the home Ashes series against England.
Starc beat strong competition from West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves and New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy to claim the award.
The left-arm quick played a key role in Australia’s dominant 4-1 Ashes series win, producing decisive performances with both bat and ball when it mattered most.
Across the three Tests played in December, Starc picked up 16 wickets at an impressive average, regularly striking early and breaking England’s top order with pace and swing.
He also made vital contributions with the bat, scoring 139 runs in those matches, a rare bonus that helped Australia push ahead in crucial moments.
Starc hit important half-centuries in two big games, scoring 77 in Brisbane and 54 in Adelaide, both innings helping Australia post match-winning totals.
His best performance came in the second Test at Brisbane, where he won the Player of the Match award after a stunning all-round effort.
In that game, Starc finished with eight wickets and scored a fluent 77 runs, swinging the match firmly in Australia’s favour.
His first-innings spell of 6 for 75 in Brisbane stood out as a turning point, ripping through England’s batting line-up and setting the tone early.
Throughout the series, Starc led the pace attack with authority, especially during periods when regular captain Pat Cummins was sidelined due to injury.
He continued to deliver breakthroughs with the new ball and returned to clean up the tail, showing why he remains one of Australia’s most trusted big-match bowlers.
For his impact across the full five-match series, Starc was also named Player of the Series and awarded the Compton-Miller Medal after finishing with a massive 31 wickets.
This ICC honour makes Starc the first Australian to win the Men’s Player of the Month award in two years, with Cummins being the last in December 2023.
