“I Said The Wrong Thing at Toss”: Rohit Sharma’s CLT20 Goof-Up Will Crack You Up

Rohit Sharma recalls hilarious toss blunder from 2013 CLT20, leaving Anil Kumble and teammates in splits

India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma recently opened up about a funny incident from the past that left his teammates in splits. During a chat with former India spinner Harbhajan Singh and his wife Geeta Basra Singh on their YouTube channel, Rohit shared a story from the 2013 Champions League T20.

Rohit Sharma On His Toss Goof-Up

The incident happened during one of the matches in the 2013 CLT20, when Rohit was captaining Mumbai Indians. At the toss, he was supposed to opt for fielding, but he ended up saying the opposite.

“Once at the 2013 CLT20 game, we had to do fielding, but after winning the toss I chose to bat first,” Rohit recalled with a laugh.

“So Anil bhai asked me, ‘What did you do Rohit?’ I said, ‘I saw that the pitch was good, so I chose to bat.’ In reality, I had forgotten what I was supposed to do and ended up saying the wrong thing at the toss. But we won the match though,” he added.

Rohit’s Habit of Forgetting Things

The story doesn’t come as a surprise to Indian fans, as Rohit Sharma is known for his habit of forgetting things. Many players, including Virat Kohli, have mentioned how Rohit can leave behind important things like his mobile phone or even passport in the hotel room.

A New Chapter In Rohit’s Career

The funny story comes at a time when Rohit Sharma is entering a new phase in his cricket journey. He recently retired from T20 internationals after leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title in the West Indies and USA.

In May 2025, Rohit also stepped away from red-ball cricket, just before the squad announcement for the England Test series. Now, as he continues to lead the ODI team, fans will miss not only his batting class but also his off-field humour and honest stories like these.
