“He’s Proving Loyalty to Indians” – Shahid Afridi’s Explosive Dig at Ex-India Star Before Asia Cup Match
Shahid Afridi stirs fresh controversy before India vs Pakistan, taking veiled digs at Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh.
The build-up to the India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2025 has taken a fiery turn, thanks to former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi.
Just days before the game in Dubai, Afridi took a fresh swipe at ex-India stars Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh, revisiting the cancelled World Championship of Legends (WCL) tie earlier this year.
India Champions, led by Yuvraj, were supposed to play Pakistan Champions in the WCL, but the contest was scrapped after backlash on social media.
Several Indian players, including Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Suresh Raina, opted out, leading organisers to cancel the match. Dhawan had even clarified that he had informed organisers beforehand that he wouldn’t participate.
Afridi, however, has continued to stir the pot. Speaking on Samaa TV, he said, “In England, fans had bought tickets, players practised, but then you didn’t play. What was the thinking? I just can’t understand.”
Without naming names, Afridi called one Indian cricketer a “bad egg” and claimed his own captain had warned him not to tweet about the matter. “That player came with an ulterior motive,” Afridi alleged.
The former Pakistan all-rounder then made a bizarre claim about certain ex-India stars.
“Some players are still trying to prove they are Indian. Bechaare jab se paida huye hain, saabit kar rahe hain hum Hindustani hain. Now they are doing commentary in the Asia Cup,” he said.
This is not the first time Afridi has courted controversy with his remarks on India. After the Pahalgam terror attack, he had drawn criticism for questioning Indian forces, which led to a public spat with Dhawan on social media.
India will face Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, with emotions already running high after Afridi’s latest comments.
