“He Was Clear About…” – Rahul Dravid Breaks Silence on Rohit Sharma Amid Retirement Reports
Rahul Dravid praises Rohit Sharma’s calm and connected captaincy, recalling their success in World Cups together.
Rahul Dravid has praised Rohit Sharma’s leadership, calling him calm, experienced, and someone who built a strong bond with his teammates.
Speaking to R Ashwin, the former India coach shared how his thought process often matched Rohit’s style as captain. Dravid said Rohit cared deeply about the team and created a good atmosphere in the dressing room.
“He cared for the team. He was always clear about what he wanted as a captain,” Dravid said. “For me, it was always the captain’s team as he managed the players in the middle. You need to help a captain in clarity and understanding what is needed.”
Dravid revealed that Rohit’s experience made a big difference.
“He was clear about what he wanted from the team. His experience helped him. I challenged him on certain things and ensured he was comfortable. Once he was comfortable, I knew he would perform and get everyone else to contribute. He was calm and connected to the team.”
The duo enjoyed success together, taking India to the 2023 ODI World Cup final and later lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup. Their partnership became one of the most memorable phases in recent Indian cricket.
After Dravid’s coaching tenure ended, Rohit wrote a heartfelt farewell message.
“I enjoyed our conversations and getting to know him as a person. It was easy to meet him and have dinner. It was not forced, and that was nice,” Rohit wrote.
Rohit has been in the news recently with speculation around his ODI captaincy and reports suggesting Shreyas Iyer could replace him. But Dravid’s words are a reminder of the trust and respect that existed between the two during their time together.
