Hanuma Vihari Switches Domestic Team, Leaves Andhra to Play for THIS Team
Hanuma Vihari leaves Andhra after a stormy stint and applies for NOC to join Tripura, where he may lead the team.
Indian Test batter Hanuma Vihari has decided to walk away from Andhra cricket and is now set to start a new chapter with Tripura.
The 31-year-old has applied for a No Objection Certificate and is expected to lead the team in the upcoming domestic season.
A New Destination After a Stormy Exit
Vihari’s switch comes after a turbulent spell with Andhra earlier this year. During the Ranji Trophy, he alleged that political pressure influenced team selections, even claiming a politician’s son was picked ahead of deserving players.
Humiliated, he declared he would never represent Andhra again. The controversy snowballed into a political talking point in Andhra Pradesh.
When the state government changed hands and TDP returned to power, Vihari briefly softened his stance and considered staying back. But now, with his NOC request, he has chosen to move on for good.
Tripura officials have already confirmed their interest. Tapan Lodh, a senior figure in the Tripura Cricket Association, hinted at the signing, saying, “We are in talks with professionals and Vihari will be one of them.” If finalised, he will not only play but also lead the side across formats.
In domestic cricket, Vihari has scored over 6,000 first-class runs. His early years with Hyderabad were especially fruitful, where he piled up more than 3,000 runs at an average above 57.
