Gujarat Titans Likely to Sign Kusal Mendis as Jos Buttler’s Replacement for Remainder IPL 2025

Gujarat Titans are expected to bring in Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis as a replacement for Jos Buttler for the remainder of IPL 2025. Buttler is likely to miss the rest of the season due to England’s upcoming white-ball series against West Indies, which begins on May 29.

Buttler has been one of the top performers for Gujarat Titans this season. Batting at No. 3, he scored 500 runs in the tournament at an outstanding average of 71.43 and a strike rate of 163.93. His consistent performances played a big role in Gujarat’s success so far.

Replacing someone like Buttler won’t be easy, but Kusal Mendis brings solid T20 experience. Mendis has played 167 T20 innings and scored 4,718 runs at an average of 30.24 with a strike rate of 137.43. He is known for his clean hitting and quick starts at the top of the order.

Mendis was also in good form recently in the PSL 2024, where he scored 143 runs for Quetta Gladiators. His average in that tournament was 35.75, and he struck the ball at an impressive rate of 168.24.

If the Titans complete the signing, Mendis will likely slot into the top order and provide firepower in the powerplay. Though not as experienced in the IPL as Buttler, Mendis has the skill set to make an impact.
