South Africa have created history at Lord’s by winning the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25. They defeated Australia by six wickets in the final played on June 14, 2025. This is South Africa’s first ICC title after 26 long years. Their last ICC trophy came in 1998 when they won the ICC KnockOut Trophy.
South Africa Finally End the Chokers Tag
Over the years, South Africa have always been called chokers. They would reach semi-finals and finals, but somehow always lose at the last stage. This time, under Temba Bavuma’s leadership, they held their nerve and grabbed the WTC mace at the home of cricket, Lord’s.
This win means a lot for South African cricket. It also ends the dominance of Australia, who were the defending champions from the 2021–23 cycle.
