Frustrated Shubman Gill Slams Poor Fielding After India Lose ODI Series to Australia
Shubman Gill blames dropped catches for India’s ODI series defeat to Australia after another poor outing in the second match
Australia sealed the three-match ODI series against India after winning the first two games, leaving the visitors searching for answers.
The home team showed all-round strength once again, chasing down 264 runs in the second ODI to take an unassailable lead.
Youngster Cooper Connolly starred with a match-winning 61 as Australia held their nerve in a tense chase.
After the loss, Indian captain Shubman Gill admitted that poor fielding and dropped chances cost his team the series.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Gill said, “We had just enough runs on the board. It’s never easy when you drop a couple of chances while defending that kind of total.”
He added that the toss wasn’t a major factor this time as both sides batted in similar conditions. India’s performance in the series has been far from ideal.
Despite the return of senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the batting hasn’t clicked as expected.
Questions are also being raised about the team management’s decision to play Harshit Rana ahead of Kuldeep Yadav, a proven wicket-taker in this format.
Gill himself has had a tough run with the bat, failing to reach double figures in either game. With pressure mounting, the young skipper will be keen to bounce back in the final match and end the series on a positive note.
