“Everyone Knows Dhoni Had Favourites, I Wasn’t One Of Them” – Ex-Indian Cricketer

Manoj Tiwary accuses MS Dhoni of favouritism, says he never got backing despite performances and will ask him face-to-face.

Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has reignited the debate on MS Dhoni’s style of leadership, accusing the legendary captain of favouritism during his tenure.

Tiwary, who played 12 ODIs and three T20Is for India, claimed he never received Dhoni’s backing despite strong performances.

“I’ll ask him if I meet him”

Tiwary recalled how he was mysteriously dropped after scoring a maiden ODI century against West Indies in 2011.

When he returned in Sri Lanka, he bagged a Player of the Match award with four wickets and followed it up with a half-century, but soon found himself out of the XI again.

“I haven’t got any answer till now. Whenever I come across MS Dhoni, definitely, I’ll ask him why I was not given the opportunity after scoring 100,” Tiwary told CricTracker.

Claims Of Bias And Selective Backing

While many teammates credit Dhoni for backing youngsters, Tiwary said his own experience was different.

“If he had really backed his players, he would have backed me because I performed. But I didn’t get the support I was hoping for,” he said. Tiwary further alleged that Dhoni had his favourites.

“I think there were a couple of individuals whom he really liked and gave full backing at that point in time. A lot of people know, but not everyone speaks about it. I consider myself as someone he didn’t like,” the Bengal veteran added.

Tiwary also admitted that Dhoni’s leadership qualities were exceptional and widely respected, but said his personal journey under Dhoni’s captaincy was disappointing.
