DC likely to release Starc, Faf, Brook, and Fraser-McGurk as they rebuild their squad for IPL 2026 around Axar, Rahul, and Kuldeep

With the IPL 2026 retention deadline falling tomorrow, November 15, 2025, the Delhi Capitals (DC) are preparing to overhaul their squad after an up-and-down 2025 season. Reports suggest that several high-profile overseas players and inconsistent domestic performers will be released as DC aim to rebuild a stronger, more dependable core.

DC Released Players List Ahead of IPL 2026 Auction

One of the biggest names expected to be released is Mitchell Starc. The Australian pacer had a strong start to IPL 2025 but lost rhythm as the season progressed. Given his high salary and inconsistent form, DC are likely to let him go.

Indian left-arm pacer T Natarajan also faces release after another injury-hit campaign. His fitness issues limited his opportunities, making it difficult for DC to rely on him as a frontline bowler.

Veteran opener Faf du Plessis is another likely exit as DC look to refresh their top order with younger, more adaptable options.

Hard-hitting Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk may also be released. He delivered explosive knocks at times but struggled for consistency, and DC may prefer to open up an overseas slot for bowlers or all-rounders.

Harry Brook, currently serving a two-year IPL ban, is an obvious release. Meanwhile, Donovan Ferreira, who played sparingly, is likely to be let go as DC consider more flexible wicketkeeping choices.

Among domestic players, Mohit Sharma and Karun Nair are both expected to be released after inconsistent seasons and limited impact.

DC will keep their key Indian core intact. Axar Patel remains central to their plans as captain and all-rounder. KL Rahul provides stability at the top, while Kuldeep Yadav continues to be their strike spinner.

In the overseas group, Tristan Stubbs is expected to stay for his finishing ability and improved batting form in 2025.

Young Indian talents Abhishek Porel, Ashutosh Sharma, and Sameer Rizvi are also likely to be retained, giving DC a strong collection of emerging players to build around.
