CSK Insider Confirms: MS Dhoni Has Informed Franchise About His Retirement Plans
MS Dhoni has informed Chennai Super Kings about his retirement plans.

MS Dhoni has reportedly spoken to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management about his retirement plans, but it won’t happen at the end of IPL 2025.
According to a report by The Times of India, Dhoni may continue to play in the IPL beyond the 2025 season, despite constant speculation about his retirement.
Dhoni Retained as Uncapped Player
Before the start of IPL 2025, CSK retained Dhoni as an uncapped player, which surprised many fans. While Dhoni hasn’t spoken publicly about his future, sources close to the franchise say that the legendary wicketkeeper-batter still wants to contribute to CSK in a big way.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was named captain for IPL 2025, but Dhoni had to take over the leadership again after Gaikwad got injured midway through the tournament. CSK has had a tough time this season, winning just two out of their last seven games under Dhoni’s captaincy.
The team is out of the playoff race and will be playing their next match against Rajasthan Royals on May 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
CSK Hopes Dhoni Will Play Beyond 2025
The report also states that Dhoni will likely make a final decision on his retirement in a few months. CSK management is hopeful he will continue for at least one more season.
They believe Dhoni wants to help the team fix its weak areas and guide the younger players before stepping away from the game.
Even though he might play in IPL 2026, it is unlikely that Dhoni will continue as captain. CSK is expected to hand over the leadership duties to Ruturaj Gaikwad once he recovers fully from his elbow injury.
For now, Dhoni remains an important figure in the CSK camp, both as a leader and a mentor during this rebuilding phase.
