‘Bowlers Cost Us the Game’ – Babar Azam Reflects on Pakistan’s Super Over Defeat Against USA
Babar Azam blamed bowlers for their super over defeat against USA in the T20 World Cup 2024.
The Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, once again threw his bowlers under the bus after Pakistan’s embarrassing defeat in the super over against the United States of America in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday in Dallas.
Babar Azam pinpointed missed bowling opportunities, particularly in the powerplay and middle overs, as the primary reason for the upset loss. Here’s what Babar Azam said in the post-match conference:
“We were not up to the mark in the first 6 overs with the ball. Our spinners also did not take wickets in the middle overs so these things cost us.”
For Pakistan, Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf picked one wicket each while the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan went wicketless.
Pakistan’s batting performance was also modest, with Babar Azam himself top-scoring with 44 runs and Shadab Khan chipping in with a valuable 40.
They could only manage 159 runs on the board, a total that the American batters nearly chased down, thanks to a fighting half-century from their captain Monak Patel.
The match went down to the wire, with the scores tied after the final regulation was over. Later, USA defended their super over target of 19 runs, thanks to Saurabh Netravalkar to script history and clich their second win of the tournament.
