“A fiery addition to our coaching staff! Welcome Varun Aaron as our new bowling coach,” SRH wrote.
Aaron replaces Dale Steyn, who was with the franchise earlier.

The 35-year-old joins a coaching group led by Daniel Vettori, with Simon Helmot as the assistant coach and Muttiah Muralitharan looking after the spinners.

SRH Look to Bounce Back After 2025 Exit

SRH had a strong season in 2024 when they finished as runners-up, but things didn’t go their way in 2025, as they failed to qualify for the playoffs.

With Aaron’s addition, the franchise is aiming to sharpen its pace unit ahead of the new season.

Aaron played nine Tests and nine ODIs for India between 2011 and 2015. Known for his raw pace, he picked 18 Test and 11 ODI wickets during his international career.

In the IPL, he turned out for multiple teams like Delhi Daredevils, RCB, Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans. He took 44 wickets in 52 IPL matches, with a best of 3/16.

He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in January 2025.

“For the past 20 years, I have lived, breathed, and thrived on the rush of bowling fast… I officially announce my retirement from representative cricket,” Aaron had written.

He is currently part of the broadcasting team for India’s tour of England and has been on air during the ongoing Test series.
