BCCI Will Not Hold Press Conference for Asia Cup 2025 Squad Announcement
BCCI may skip press conference, reveal India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad online; Bumrah fit, Gill doubtful.
Fans are waiting eagerly to know India’s team for the Asia Cup 2025, but the BCCI is yet to decide how to announce it. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday to finalise the 15-player squad.
According to reports, the BCCI may skip the traditional press conference. Sources say the team could be revealed directly on the official website instead of holding a media meet.
Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness is a big boost for India. The 31-year-old fast bowler impressed in the recent Test series against England, taking 14 wickets in three matches. His inclusion gives the team strength ahead of the Asia Cup.
On the other hand, Test captain Shubman Gill might miss out on the T20 squad. Selectors feel he does not fit India’s current T20 strategy.
Since July 2024, when he last played a T20I against Sri Lanka, Gill has been left out in games against Bangladesh, South Africa, and England. Including him now would mean changing the batting order, which the team wants to avoid.
Suryakumar Yadav, who has cleared his fitness test, is expected to lead India in the Asia Cup. Final decisions will be made after discussions between selectors, team management, and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia on August 19.
The Asia Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28, 2025. Fans will finally get to see India’s official squad before the tournament kicks off.
