BCCI Invites Applications for Bowling and Batting Coach

The BCCI has officially invited applications for several key coaching roles at its newly-inaugurated Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru.

The COE, earlier known as the National Cricket Academy, is set to undergo a major staff overhaul as several long-serving members have moved on in recent months.

This includes bowling coach Troy Cooley, medical head Nitin Patel, spin coach Sairaj Bahutule, and development coach Sitanshu Kotak.

Cooley’s Exit Ends a Crucial Phase

Australian coach Troy Cooley, one of the most respected figures in world cricket, has completed his three-year contract with the BCCI.

Appointed in 2021, the 59-year-old played a key role in developing India’s next generation of fast bowlers and was working towards a contract extension.

He could be replaced by someone like former India fast bowler VRV Singh, who worked under Cooley during his stint.

More Exits at COE

Nitin Patel, the head of the medical team, resigned earlier this year after nearly three years in the role. Sairaj Bahutule, meanwhile, joined Rajasthan Royals as part of their support staff. Sitanshu Kotak, who was part of the NCA coaching group, is now permanently with the senior Indian team.

Reports also suggest that VVS Laxman, the head of COE, is unlikely to extend his tenure, which ends later this year. However, there’s still a chance he may be asked to continue until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

New Hiring Begins

To fill the gaps, the BCCI has opened applications for the roles of batting coach, bowling coach, and head of sports science and medicine at the COE.

Applicants for the batting and bowling coach roles must be former first-class or international players with a BCCI Level-2 or Level-3 coaching certificate.

At least five years of experience in coaching at the state or elite youth level is also required. Technical knowledge of relevant coaching software is a must.

For the role in sports science and medicine, candidates need a master’s degree (doctorate preferred) in a relevant discipline and at least five years of leadership experience managing high-performance teams.

The last date to apply is August 20.
