BCCI in Talks with CSK’s Stephen Fleming for India Head Coach Role

Stephen Fleming is on BCCI radar for India head coach position.

With Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach of the Indian cricket team concluding after the T20 World Cup 2024, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun its search for his replacement.

According to a report by The Indian Express, former New Zealand captain and current Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach, Stephen Fleming, has emerged as a frontrunner for the coveted position.

Fleming’s successful stint with CSK, where he has led the team to five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles, has impressed the BCCI bigwigs.

His ability to nurture young talent, create a positive team environment, and achieve consistent results makes him a strong contender for the Indian head coach role.

However, a potential hurdle exists. The BCCI reportedly expects the new head coach to oversee all three formats – Test,ODI, and T20I – which would necessitate a demanding schedule with the Indian team throughout the year.

This commitment might conflict with Fleming’s current role at CSK, where he would likely have to step down due to the BCCI’s policy restrictions.

Whether Fleming expresses interest in the position and is willing to relinquish his CSK role remains to be seen. With the official application process underway, the coming weeks could offer more clarity on the BCCI’s coaching plans for the Indian cricket team.
