BCCI Fails, Cricket Australia Now to Give Farewell to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma
Cricket Australia are eager to give Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma the deserving farewell.
While BCCI has not announced any farewell plan for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Cricket Australia has taken the lead. As per reports, CA is preparing a special tribute for the two Indian legends during India’s tour to Australia in October 2025.
Both Kohli and Rohit have retired from Tests and T20Is and are expected to play a three-match ODI series in Australia, possibly their last in the country.
Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said, “If this is the last time we see Virat and Rohit play in Australia, we want to give them a great send-off. Their contribution to international cricket has been incredible.”
Before that, India is scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August. But there’s still no clarity whether Kohli and Rohit will take part in that series.
Many believe they could end their careers after the 2027 ODI World Cup, but the Australia tour might serve as a symbolic farewell. Cricket Australia also hinted at its long-term wish of having Indian players in the Big Bash League.
While BCCI’s policy doesn’t allow centrally contracted players to join foreign leagues, Greenberg said talks will continue.
“I would love to see someone like Virat Kohli play in the BBL. It would boost both crowds and TV ratings,” he added.
Whether or not they play beyond 2025, this farewell in Australia shows how cricket boards outside India are stepping up to honour two icons who shaped the modern era of Indian cricket.
