Babar Azam Confirms His Batting Position in T20 World Cup 2024

Babar Azam will come one down for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has revealed his batting position for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies. He made this announcement during a pre-match conference before the first T20I against England.

“I will play at one down position in the T20 WorldCup 2024,” said Babar Azam.

This announcement positions Mohammad Rizwan and likely Saim Ayub to open the innings for Pakistan. The decision comes after Babar Azam faced criticism for his perceived slow batting approach in T20 cricket.

However, he silenced his doubters with a blistering 75 runs off just 42 balls in the series-clinching third T20I against Ireland.

This aggressive knock serves as a warning to those questioning his capabilities in the shortest format. With a clear plan and a recent display of power-hitting, Babar Azam seems all set to lead Pakistan’s batting charge in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Babar Azam further stated that the Pakistan team decided to change their mindset after losing the first T20 against Ireland. However, he also added that while people want them to hit four and sixes on each delivery, they have to play according to the situation.

“We changed our style of cricket and mindset after losing the 1st T20 against Ireland. People want us to hit only fours and sixes but we have to play according to the situation,” Babar Azam added.

It will be interesting to see how Pakistan will play in the four-match T20I series against the full-fledged England side. It will serve as a proper warm-up for both teams heading into the T20 World Cup 2024.
