The Pakistan skipper reached the landmark during the second T20I against South Africa in Lahore. Babar needed just nine runs to go past Rohit’s total of 4,231 T20I runs.

After missing out in the first match, he calmly crossed the mark with a trademark cover drive for a single, drawing loud cheers from the home fans.

The 30-year-old now leads the chart with 4,234 runs from 130 matches, ahead of Rohit Sharma (4,231), Virat Kohli (4,188), and Jos Buttler (3,869).

It’s a moment of redemption for Babar Azam, who faced sharp criticism after Pakistan’s poor campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

“Records come and go, but this one feels special,” Babar said after the match. “It’s an honour to see my name among the greats.”

His effort also guided Pakistan to a comfortable win. Chasing a modest 111, Pakistan reached the target with ease. Young opener Saim Ayub led the charge with a brilliant 71 not out off 38 balls, while Sahibzada Farhan added 28.

The hosts wrapped up the chase in just over 13 overs, levelling the three-match series 1-1.
