Australia announce Pat Cummins as ODI captain
Cricket Australia confirmed that Pat Cummins will replace Aaron Finch as ODI captain of Australia.
Cricket Australia, on Tuesday (October 18) announced Pat Cummins as the captain of one-day internationals after Aaron Finch stepped down from the role last month.
The fast bowler is already shouldering Australia’s Test captaincy and he will now replace former ODI skipper Aaron Finch as the captain of Australia’s one-day internationals.

With this, Cummins also became the first ever bowler to lead a national team in the white-ball format. Speaking on his appointment as Australia’s ODI skipper, here’s what Cummins had to say:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed playing under Finchy and have learnt an enormous amount from his leadership.”
“They are significant shoes to fill, although we are extremely fortunate to have a one-day squad with a huge amount of experience.”
The chair of selectors George Bailey also showered praises on the star pacer for his excellent leadership skills in the red-ball format and stated what management expects from him in the ODIs:

“Pat has done an excellent job since taking on the captaincy of the Test side and we look forward to him leading the one-day team to the 2023 World Cup in India.”
Cummins’ first assignment as ODI captain will be leading the Men in Yellow against England in the three-match series, starting 17 November, which will serve as an ideal preparation for the 2023 World Cup.
